We hope you enjoy learning about our Troop and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!
At Troop 69, we are dedicated to building the leaders of tomorrow through the core values of Scouting and the BSA Patrol Method, which emphasizes youth leadership and personal responsibility. Our Scouts take the lead in planning and carrying out activities, ensuring the program reflects their interests and the needs of the troop. Advancement happens through hands-on experiences—whether working on merit badges together at meetings, pursuing them individually, or gaining skills during outdoor adventures. With monthly campouts and an exciting week at summer camp as annual highlights, our Scouts grow in confidence, teamwork, and character. Every step of the journey is designed to prepare them with the leadership skills and moral strength they’ll carry into adulthood.
I’m Geoff Hamilton, Scoutmaster of Troop 69, and I’m excited to extend a warm invitation for you to visit us sometime.
Troop 69 is made up of 10–15 Scouts from diverse backgrounds, ages 11–18, attending a variety of middle and high schools in and around Homestead. Our troop is Scout-led, offering a wide range of activities such as cycling, canoeing, fishing, outdoor cooking, hiking, as well as overnight camping and backpacking trips at nearby parks. Many of our Scouts also attend summer camp each year for unforgettable adventures.
We are proud to focus on developing youth of strong character, building leadership skills, and promoting community service. Our Scouts are supported by a dedicated team of adult leaders, engaged parents, and the wonderful community of Homestead.
If you’re curious about Troop 69, please don’t hesitate to reach out. You will be welcomed warmly and can experience first-hand the life-changing adventures and positive experiences our Scouts enjoy. We hope to see you soon!
Yours in Scouting,
Geoff Hamilton
Besides our weekly meetings, we generally program one weekend Troop Campout and 1-2 outings per month to various locations all around Southern Florida. Outings are usually selected and produced by our Scouts not only to do things they already enjoy, but also to expose them to new activities and develop new abilities. In the process, they learn the necessary skills to become effective leaders, always with the support and guidance of our adult staff.
Activities vary widely and can include options such as day and overnighter hikes, road biking, canoeing, fishing, beach trips, orienteering, train trips, just to name a few.
We usually offer a summer camp opportunity each year. Summer camp is open to all Scouts in the troop, and is conducted at an established Scout Camp. Some recent trips include Camp La-No-Che and Camp Shands, with sights of attending Camp Hi Sierra in California and BSA High Adventure Sea Base in the Florida Keys.
If you are interested in joining or learning more, please stop by one of our meetings or email floridatroop69@gmail.com. Phone inquiries to our Membership Coordinator, Beatriz Pineda at (305) 283-5357. Our weekly meetings are held at Silver Palm United Methodist Church. We meet Tuesdays, from 7:00PM to 8:30PM throughout the year. Troop 69 is always welcoming new Scouts, so feel free to drop in!
